as演算子はデータ型が一致したときに、評価したデータ型として値を返します。このことを利用して、MovieClipインスタンスのrootプロパティがDisplayObject型として取り出されるのを、as演算子を使ってMovieClip型に変換して代入するとエラーにならずに代入できます。
